JBL-1 Quick Connect Lexus Harness Adapter

Thank you for purchasing the JBL-1 Harness Adapter used for installation of a Parrot Bluetooth Kit

You should be aware that the enclosed adapter is provided as-is. Cars can vary in terms of wiring.  You are responsible for verifying your own wiring and the suitability of this harness adapter to your particular vehicle. Professional installation is therefore always suggested. Our maximum liability is limited to the original purchase price of the adapter.

Radio Presets and Security Code

By unplugging the 20-Pin connector on the back of the radio, the radio station presets and other radio settings may be lost.  Be sure to record these settings in advance.  If your radio is equipped with a theft deterrent security code, please make sure this code is handy before installation.

Information for the Installer:

Remove the radio according to manufacturer directions.  On the back of the radio you will notice a 20-Pin plug which is unique because the outside corner 4 pins are larger and are offset slightly.  Unplug this connector.

Plug the matching connector of the JBL-1 into the 20 pin receptacle.  Insert the plug originally removed from the radio into the JBL-1 20 pin receptacle.  Now plug the 4 Parrot kit ISO plugs into the 2 dual ISO plugs on the JBL-1. The plugs can only be inserted one way because of the side key which prevents incorrect attachment.  The next step is VERY IMPORTANT:  plug the Parrot yellow mute wire with the bullet connector into the yellow wire receptacle labeled “Mute- In 2”.  Push the bullet in firmly.  The “Mute-In 1” and “Mute-In 3” receptacles will not be used.  You will also not be using any of the thin line out wires provided on the 3100 and 3200 Parrot models.  Simply bundle up these wires and protect them from shorts or damage.

Mount the Parrot LCD in a suitable location.  You can use the attachment methods provided with the kit or simply use some white 3M mounting foam tape or Velcro strips available at most hardware stores or Radio Shack.  Mount the microphone at the top of the A-pillar (in convertibles) or at the right edge of the driver’s visor so that it is facing the driver’s mouth.

Other than reinstalling the radio and securing the Parrot blue box and wiring harness in a hidden location where it is secure and protected, the installation now just requires speaker connections.

MORE DETAIL ABOUT JBL-1 HARNESS SPEAKER CONNECTIONS

If you don’t want to cut into your existing vehicle’s speaker connections, you can simply use a 4-8 ohm speaker with our harness.  Attach two male bullet connectors to the speaker wires and connect them to the gray pair of wires with the female bullet sockets on our harness.  Put electrical tape over the 6 unused speaker connectors on our harness.

A much more elegant solution is to use an existing speaker(s) in the vehicle as your Parrot speaker.  This REQUIRES that you CUT the connection to that speaker and insert our bullet connectors as shown (continued on back)

Your installer can determine which existing speaker(s) would be suitable.  In many Lexus models as well as the Toyota Prius, 4Runner, Avalon and Sienna – the single center channel dash speaker is ideal and easy to connect to.  In the Camry and in Lexus models with 2 dash speakers such as the LS430, you can use both speakers for your Parrot audio. Do not use any speakers less than 2 inches in diameter as your Parrot speakers (in other words, DON’T use the small 1” tweeters commonly found on or near the dash).  Many of the dash speakers can be removed from ABOVE the dash for easy access but make sure to follow manufacturer removal instructions.  We provide bullet connectors so that you can extend the speaker leads using appropriate gauge speaker wire if needed.  In some vehicles, you will need to use the passenger (or, if you prefer, the driver AND passenger) front door speakers as your Parrot speakers.  You can attach to these speakers directly or, preferably, attach to the speaker leads as they emanate from the car’s audio amplifier.   The wiring diagrams for the speakers and amp are generally well known by qualified installers. You can also obtain wiring diagrams directly from Toyota/Lexus at https://techinfo.toyota.com/indexhttps.html for a small fee.

Attachment Instructions:  We provide loose mating bullet connectors for your installation.  You will just use the Gray and Gray-Black pairs if you are attaching to a single speaker.  If using a second speaker, also use the White and White-Black pairs in addition.  Try to observe speaker polarity. If you are only using a single speaker, please tape over the unused bullet connectors on the JBL-1.

The 4 red sockets shown above go TOWARD the SPEAKER TERMINALS themselves. Mating red connectors are provided if you need to extend these connections with 14 or 16 gauge speaker wires.  If you are soldering directly to the speaker terminals, you can cut off these sockets if you wish. The Gray and Gray-Black pair would go to your first speaker used.  If you are going to use a second speaker, the White and White-Black pair will go to the second speaker.

The 4 red bullet males shown above go TOWARD the car amplifier (audio SOURCE).  The Gray and Gray-Black pair would go to your first source.  The White and White-Black pair can go to your second source, if used.
